Calcium sulfide - Introduction
Sulfide of alkaline earth metal calcium, white at room temperature with the smell of rotten eggs, impure and often yellow. It has a sodium chloride-type crystal structure, each S2-is coordinated with six Ca2 octahedrons, and each Ca2 + is also coordinated with six S2-s in an octahedral structure. Those containing impurities are light yellow. Soluble in water or hydrolyze in case of moisture. Slightly soluble in alcohol. It decomposes in humid air and is oxidized in dry air. H2S is released due to rapid decomposition of acid. Reacts with chlorine and iodine to precipitate elemental sulfur.

Calcium sulfide has the lowest alkalinity, strontium sulfide is in the middle, and barium sulfide has the strongest alkalinity. Barium sulfide hair removal is more effective than calcium sulfide. Due to the toxicity of barium sulfide, some countries (such as the United Kingdom) have banned it. At present, the most commonly used sulfide is strontium sulfide. Strontium sulfide is a milder depilating agent, but a higher concentration can achieve better results. If the formula is suitable, it is also very effective, and it will take effect within 3~5min after application. |
